Scotland were the last team to leave the arena this evening in Prague after coming through group 6 as winners with a 4-1 win over Croatia in their deciding group encounter. The Scots walked out of the arena with a strut in their step after securing a quarter final draw against France, a draw the team were more than happy with.

“The group was good for us as we won all three matches by a 4-1 score line” said Joshua Apiliga to Badminton Europe. “We were lucky enough to draw France as they were one of the two teams we really hoped for in the quarter final” said Josh McKay immediately after the draw took place live in the arena.

Team Russia beat Sweden to win the sub group shoot out to be the last team into the quarter final draw. Anastasiia Pustinskaia proved the star of the Russian team once again taking her women’s singles in easy fashion. The 16 year old has so far played four matches and won all four without dropping a set.

Russia drew second seeds England in the quarter final draw and Pustinskaia was happy both with the evenings win and the draw.

“The match against Sweden was very good for us. I am very happy the way I played in my singles to give my team an important point. To play England in the quarter final is a big test for us as they have a very good team but we hope to bring Georgii Karpov into the team tomorrow in singles as the English have a very good men’s singles and are always strong in doubles.”

Maria Kuse in action for Germany during their 5-0 win over Norway

Earlier in the afternoon top seeds Denmark secured their quarter final spot winning group 1. Turkey, Czech Republic, France and Germany soon followed with the Germans looking particularly impressive topping group 5 with three straight 5-0 wins.

The Germans have now been drawn against the Danes in the quarter final in what is probably the pick of the quarter final matches. The Germans will fancy their chances against Denmark for sure with some real power nestled within the German team.

Hosts Czech Republic round out the quarter final draw where they will face off against podium ever presents Turkey. The Turks have traditionally relied heavily on their powerful girls with Ercetin and Erdem virtually guarantee to pick up points for turkey in any match. This year however Turkey have some boys backing up the girls and they will be slight favourites against the tournament hosts.
